Location

The Symposium will take place in a selected site within the Greater Toronto Area (the Province's capital).

Event description

Canada in general and Ontario particularly have unique environments, with an abundance of smaller and larger lakes hidden in dark forests, providing shelter for a variety of birds and wild animals. The landscape has fascinated many artists, so far mostly painters and writers. Now we offer sculptors the opportunity to discover and preserve the individuality of this landscape in the most natural way - by carving in Canadian stone. The uniqueness of the Canadian landscape will stimulate contemporary artists to express their own interpretation of Nature

General

The International Stone Sculpture Symposium will take the form of a performing art event, an open sculpture studio involving participation of both artists and the public. The event will bring together sculptors from various countries, who will demonstrate their process of stone sculpture creation in front of the public. In addition, they will explain their approach and exchange ideas with artists. The artist will be provided with Canadian limestone as a medium. It is expected that the event will produce  contemporary sculptures which will be used for urbanistic or æsthetic purpose at Ontario sites.

The objective of the symposium is to initiate artistic and cultural co-operation between artists of different backgrounds. The most active and dynamic artists of the world will participate in the event. This will give opportunity for other artists to watch and learn, and gain a new experience in their artistic endeavours.

Concurrent activities:

During the Symposium, artist will be offered opportunity to exhibit other examples of their own works, participate in lectures, seminars, discussions, etc. After closing of the sculpting event, an art auction will be organized.

Schedule:

This is an advance notification of the intended event. We are encouraging artists to express their interest by sending the name, curriculum vitae, address and contact information. We will contact artists when more information is available.
